MATT LAWTON AT ESTADIO D. AFONSO HENRIQUES: England had Jordan Pickford to thank as they beat Switzerland in a penalty shootout in their Nations League third-place play-off. After a sluggish first half, England nearly took the lead through the unlikely source of Swiss defender Fabian Schar, the Newcastle United stopper deflecting a low cross on to his own upright. Gareth Southgate's men thought they had found the elusive winner in the 84th minute when Bournemouth's Callum Wilson prodded home, however it was ruled out by Romanian referee Ovidiu Hategan after consulting VAR - the striker penalised for a foul in the build up. The decision forced the match into extra-time and eventually penalties, where Pickford scored before saving from Josip Drmic to help England to a 6-5 victory.
